Jeannie's Bags Outreach

Jeannie's Bags Outreach

As faithful Christians, we are called to see Jesus Himself in those who are hungry and in need. Our Lord teaches, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat” (Matthew 25:35, NIV), reminding us that every act of compassion toward the least among us is an act of love toward Him.

When we give food to the homeless, we are not merely offering a meal; we are honoring the God who created them, affirming their dignity, and living out the heart of the gospel. Scripture urges us, “Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food… If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing… what good is it?” (James 2:15–16, NIV).

Our faith must move beyond words into action. Proverbs 19:17 (NIV) promises, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” When we share bread, prepare a meal, or support ministries that feed the hungry, we participate in God’s own generous character.

Let our giving be done not out of guilt or mere obligation, but from grateful hearts that have received God’s grace in Christ. In a world where many pass by those on the streets, may we be the ones who stop, notice, and serve, trusting that as we feed the homeless, we are walking in obedience to God’s Word and shining His light in a dark and hungry world.

YOUR BIBLE!

When Christians of faith give a Bible to someone who does not have one, they are offering far more than a book; they are sharing the very words through which God reveals himself and brings new life.

Scripture says, “the word of God is living and active” (Hebrews 4:12) and that faith comes “by hearing… the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). To place a Bible into someone’s hands is to trust that God can speak directly to their heart in his timing, even when we are not present to explain every page. It is an act of love and confidence in the gospel: that God’s promises, his comfort, his correction, and his hope are powerful and sufficient.

Christians who give Bibles do so not to win arguments or force religion, but to open a door—to say, “Here is the story of the God who made you, loves you, and invites you to know him.” Often this gift is accompanied by prayer, a personal note, or an offer to read together, so that the recipient knows they are not alone in their questions or journey.

In a world of shifting opinions and temporary comforts, to give someone a Bible is to place in their hands a lamp for their feet and a light for their path (Psalm 119:105), trusting that God’s word will not return empty but will accomplish his gracious purposes.

Jeannie's Bags

Jeannie's Bags

Jeanie’s Bags didn’t start out as Jeanie’s Bags. They were started approximately six years ago by Andrea LaPointe. She and her children were going on a youth trip to Washington, D.C., and Andrea thought it would be a good idea to hand out bags with some incidentals on the National Mall.

These bags contained travel-size items such as toothpaste, deodorant, and a toothbrush. When she returned, she had some bags left over and passed them around, asking everyone to hand them out to the individuals on the street corners.

Jeanie was heavily involved in passing out these bags to the homeless and downtrodden. She carried them with her everywhere. She rode the bus to many places and passed out these bags to everyone she could. She took her dog for long walks, not only in the neighborhood, but also along the beach. She would pass these bags out during these walks, also.

Jeanie had a real heart for the homeless, and after Andrea moved on to another church, she took over the ministry. She expanded the contents of the bags to include items like small containers of hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and socks.

With the passing of Jeanie, Betty has taken over the ministry. The bags are still put together and passed out to the homeless, but Betty has expanded the contents of the bags and the ministry also. She has included a homeless shelter where we can deliver some of Jeanie’s Bags.
