I was baptized in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Christian Church in Honolulu, Hawaii in April 1980. The elders immediately put me to work teaching the fifth grade Sunday School and reading Scripture from the pulpit. Then the worship leader talked me into singing in various ensembles.

I came to Colonial Heights Church of Christ in 1985, was elected deacon in 1986 and elder in 1990. It has been my privilege to serve in many capacities through the years, but I would have to say that sharing God’s Word is by far my favorite. In fact, like Paul, I find myself compelled to teach (1 Corinthians 9:16).

Join us in the church building, on Facebook live, by zoom for Bible studies, or visit our YouTube page to check out our videos. Each of these choices is designed to bring praise and glory to the Lord, and you can start by praising God with Psalm 150.

My dear friends, as someone who has walked many years in faith, I want to share with you the profound gift that attending church can be. Church is more than a building or a Sunday routine—it’s a sacred space where your heart, mind, and soul can find rest, purpose, and connection.

When you step into church, you’re not just joining a gathering; you’re weaving yourself into a community of people who share your hopes, struggles, and desire to grow closer to God. It’s a place where you can lay down your burdens and find encouragement through shared worship, prayer, and the timeless wisdom of scripture. In those moments of song and reflection, you’re reminded that you’re not alone on life’s journey—God is with you, and so are your brothers and sisters in faith.

Church also anchors us in truth. In a world filled with noise and confusion, the teachings and fellowship you find there offer clarity and strength to face life’s challenges. It’s a place to be reminded of God’s love, to renew your spirit, and to find guidance for living with compassion and integrity.

As an elder, I’ve seen how regular worship transforms lives—bringing peace to the restless, hope to the weary, and purpose to those searching for meaning. So, come to church, not out of obligation, but out of a desire to draw near to God and to others. Let it be your refuge, your joy, and your foundation. You’ll find that in giving your time to worship, you receive far more in return—a heart lifted, a soul strengthened, and a life enriched by faith.

"Dear friend, I know life can be busy and overwhelming, but I want to encourage you to come to church—not out of duty, but because it’s a place where you can find true rest and renewal.

Physical Rest Exodus 20:8-11 Recharge your body and Energy for the week.

The Bible says in Matthew 11:28, ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Church is where we meet Jesus together, where His love lifts our burdens and fills us with hope.

Emotional Peace Psalm 23:2-3 Find calm amidst life's stresses.

When we gather, we’re reminded we’re not alone—God’s Spirit moves among us, and our shared worship strengthens us for the journey. You have a unique place in our church family, and your presence blesses others just as much as it blesses you.

Spiritual Renewal Leviticus 23:3 Grow closer to God in worship.

Come, let’s worship together, grow in faith, and discover the joy God has for you in community!"

Community Deuteronomy 5:12-14 Build bonds with others who care.
